FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How do I get an appointment?

    • You can call the office at 530-470-9111 or come in Monday through Friday, 9:00 - 5:00.

  • Who does the counseling?

    • Therapists in the Professional Division are either MFT/PCC/MSW Registered Associates or Trainees. They have either completed, or are in the process of completing, their Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. Associates are registered with the State of California and both Associates/Trainee are overseen by a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

    • Counselors in the Lay Counseling Division are volunteers from the community who counsel at Anew Day. They are not professionals, but are trained and overseen by licensed Marriage and Family Therapists.

  • What will your services cost me?

    • Sessions in the Professional Division are charged on a sliding scale based on annual household income.

    • Sessions in the Lay Counseling Division​ are offered free of charge (with a suggested $5 donation).

    • We make every effort to provide services at an affordable rate. No one will be turned away due to an inability to pay.

  • Do you provide counseling for children and teenagers?

    • Therapists in the Professional Division counsel people of all ages.

    • Counselors in the Lay Counseling Division counsel people from age 13 and up

    • Often times, individuals under the age of 18 may need a parental consent.

  • I would feel uncomfortable discussing my problem with a person of the opposite gender.

    • Therapists in the Professional Division counsel people of all genders. We can accommodate you if you have a preference for your therapist.

    • Counselors in the Lay Counseling Division only counsel individuals of the same gender.

  • What is the process for me to get counseling at Anew Day?

    • When you call or come in you will be asked to fill out an intake form which will provide basic information that can be used to contact you when an appointment is available.

  • How long will it take for me to start my counseling?

    • If you are in a crisis situation we will make every effort to have you seen the same day that you call. From time to time, we have a wait list. However, the wait list is reviewed continually and as a counselor has an appointment time open up, they will begin calling those on the wait list. Currently, we offer support groups for women, and men that you are welcome to attend. The office staff will also suggest other options that might interest you while you are waiting to be seen.

  • How long are the sessions?

    • Sessions typically last 50 minutes.

  • Do you have evening and weekend sessions available?

    • Yes, we do have limited evening session times available. However, we currently do not have any weekend offerings.

  • How long will my counseling last in order for my problem to be resolved?

    • Your therapist or counselor will work with you until either you or they feel that you are ready to move forward. In some situations only a couple of session might be needed, others may require a longer period. We value the client/counselor relationship and the timing is discussed and decided together.

  • I have some pretty disturbing things happening in my life. What kinds of problems can Anew Day help with?

    • Our Associates/Trainees and Lay Counselors have varied backgrounds and continually are being trained in different areas. They have seen it all! However if you have an issue that they feel needs more specialized help they will make every effort to provide you with a list of suitable referrals.

  • I am concerned about people finding out about all the stuff going on in my life. Will my time with the Anew Day Therapist/Counselor be private?

    • Aside from Mandated Reporting requirements, your time at Anew Day is completely confidential.

  • Is Anew Day affiliated with any church or denomination?

    • Anew Day is a faith based counseling center and we are not affiliated with any particular church, though many churches in the local area refer clients to us.

​

  • Must a person be a Christian to get services there?

    • No. We are open and willing to help anyone who is hurting and needs help.

​

  • Where are you located? What are your hours?

    • We are located at 117 New Mohawk Rd., Nevada City CA. We are open from 9:00 to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and by appointment.

  • Will I be evangelized/proselytized as a client?

    • Our counselors will respect your wishes and meet you where you are. Our goal is to help you through your challenges and be a loving, caring support for you.
