Frequently Asked questions

What is the RAKE event?
RAKE stands for Random Acts of Kindness Event. It is an annual community service event where hundreds of people register to join work crews that serve various needs in our community. This year's event is Saturday, October 2nd from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
Who is organizing the RAKE event?
This event is planned and organized by Anew Day - a local non-profit dedicated to providing free lay counseling and reduced cost professional therapy to those in need.

How much does it cost to participate in the Rake event?
The RAKE event is free for all participants and those who pre-register by September 26th get a free event t-shirt. Event expenses are covered by sponsorships and donations.

How will donations be used?
All proceeds from RAKE go first to cover the event expenses - advertising, the free participant t-shirts and any supplies needed for the various projects. The money left over after these expenses are paid goes wholly to support Anew Day and the counselling services we provide to the community.
What type of work will be involved?
Anew Day collaborates with city and county officials to create a list of needed projects each year. Typically crews do roadside clean-up, park, school and trail maintenance projects, firewood loading and delivery to seniors as well as yard work for seniors in need.
How do I register to participate in the RAKE event?
Register on-line by clicking "RAKE" in the menu above, then click "register now" at the bottom of the page. You also may call the Anew Day office during business hours at 530-470-9111.

What is the deadline to register?
We appreciate you registering as soon as possible, but the deadline is Sunday, September 26th to be guaranteed a t-shirt. All online registration will close Thursday, September 30th.

What ages can participate in the RAKE event?
All ages are welcome to participate, but minors must provide a parent signed waiver and children must be supervised. Many children and youth participate in this event. Girl Scout Troops, sports teams and whole families regularly join the cause.

How do I help make the RAKE event a success?
Your participation is what makes RAKE a success. We are also looking for Team Leaders who can organize a group of people to work together on a project. Please contact the Anew Day Office if you're willing to lead a work crew. You may gather your own crew or we will assign one to you. Of course you can always help us by spreading the word and encouraging others to participate. Invite friends, family and co-workers to work with you. The more workers involved the more we're able to do for our community.
How do I sign up with a group of friends to work the RAKE event?
Pick someone in your group that's willing to be your Team Leader and have them contact Anew Day for Team Leader info. When your group members register on line, instruct everyone to enter this person's name in the Team Leader/Organization box. All who enter the same name will be placed on the same team.

Is there a way to support the RAKE event even though I can’t participate on October 2nd?
Yes!!!! We welcome and are grateful for financial contributions from both individuals and businesses. All donations are tax deductible. You can donate on this webpage, by sending us a check made out to Anew Day or by calling the office with your credit card information.
What will I need to bring on RAKE day?
Please wear weather and work appropriate attire (You’ll be provided a t-shirt when you arrive at your project location). We will notify you of your assigned project in advance so you can bring anything that may be helpful for doing your work. If you bring any tools please label them so they don't get lost. Required supplies will be provided.

Where will I meet my team to begin my project?
You’ll meet your team at the project site assigned to you in advance. This information will be communicated to you by your Team Leader or by Anew Day. An address and map of the meeting location can be found on your specific RAKE project webpage.
How long is each project?
Each project is designed to take approximately 3 hours. Work starts at 9:00am and goes till 12:00pm on Saturday, October 2nd. You'll be done in time for lunch.
