POSITION SUMMARY

​

The Lay Counseling Supervisor provides clinical leadership, supervision, and support to a diverse team of volunteer mental health counselors within a Christian faith based religious non-profit organization. This role ensures high‑quality, ethical, and culturally responsive services while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, state regulations, and professional standards. The supervisor fosters a collaborative environment that promotes personal growth, clinical excellence, and positive client outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

Clinical Supervision & Leadership

  • Provide individual and group clinical supervision to a diverse team of volunteer mental health counselors.

  • Review and approve clinical documentation and progress notes.

  • Offer guidance on complex cases, crisis situations, and ethical decision‑making.

  • Model trauma‑informed, culturally competent, and evidence‑based practices.

  • Support staff in developing clinical skills and self‑care strategies.

 

Program Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, state regulations, and professional standards.

  • Monitor caseload distribution, counseling treatment quality, and clinical outcomes.

  • Participate in program development, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with leadership to refine workflows, improve service access, and enhance client experience.

 

Administrative Duties

  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to counselors.

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new volunteer counselors.

  • Maintain accurate supervision records and ensure timely documentation.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and agency leadership discussions.

 

Client Care & Crisis Support

  • Provide direct clinical services as needed, including assessments, crisis intervention, and short‑term counseling.

  • Support counselors in managing high‑risk clients and coordinating care with external providers.

  • Uphold ethical standards related to confidentiality, boundaries, and mandated reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required

  • Master’s level degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of post‑graduate clinical experience.

  • Strong knowledge of evidence‑based practices, crisis intervention, and team-management.

 

Preferred

  • Independent clinical license (e.g., LMFT, LPCC, LCSW) in good standing.

  • Approved clinical supervisor status (or ability to obtain).

  • Experience supervising pre‑licensed clinicians or interns.

  • Background in community mental health, school‑based services, or integrated care.

Work Environment
