POSITION SUMMARY
​
The Lay Counseling Supervisor provides clinical leadership, supervision, and support to a diverse team of volunteer mental health counselors within a Christian faith based religious non-profit organization. This role ensures high‑quality, ethical, and culturally responsive services while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, state regulations, and professional standards. The supervisor fosters a collaborative environment that promotes personal growth, clinical excellence, and positive client outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

Clinical Supervision & Leadership

Provide individual and group clinical supervision to a diverse team of volunteer mental health counselors.

Review and approve clinical documentation and progress notes.

Offer guidance on complex cases, crisis situations, and ethical decision‑making.

Model trauma‑informed, culturally competent, and evidence‑based practices.

Support staff in developing clinical skills and self‑care strategies.
Program Oversight
-
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, state regulations, and professional standards.

Monitor caseload distribution, counseling treatment quality, and clinical outcomes.

Participate in program development, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Collaborate with leadership to refine workflows, improve service access, and enhance client experience.
Administrative Duties
-
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to counselors.

Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new volunteer counselors.

Maintain accurate supervision records and ensure timely documentation.

Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and agency leadership discussions.
Client Care & Crisis Support

Provide direct clinical services as needed, including assessments, crisis intervention, and short‑term counseling.

Support counselors in managing high‑risk clients and coordinating care with external providers.

Uphold ethical standards related to confidentiality, boundaries, and mandated reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
-
Master’s level degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
-
Minimum 2 years of post‑graduate clinical experience.

Strong knowledge of evidence‑based practices, crisis intervention, and team-management.
Preferred
-
Independent clinical license (e.g., LMFT, LPCC, LCSW) in good standing.
-
Approved clinical supervisor status (or ability to obtain).
-
Experience supervising pre‑licensed clinicians or interns.
-
Background in community mental health, school‑based services, or integrated care.
